It's an event!
Teachers, are you looking at bare classroom walls and stacks of planning to do? We're here for you! We will be selling professionally printed, extra large scale versions of our posters at very cheap prices. There will also be free stickers, free food (come early if you want some, it will be tasty) and no event would be complete without cheap drinks.
We're quite honored to have been invited to First Friday at Attic Studios, it is an institution in Bangkok. First Friday happens every month at Attic Studios, attracting students of Art, the art-interested and art-curious. This event will be one night only and we will also be unveiling never-before seen poster designs, extra-fancy framed posters and some Thai language versions of our designs. Join us!
Twenty six days to go to raise the funds. Even if you can donate a few dollars, that would help greatly and we appreciate if you can share it as well. We want to make the first film of its kind in Thailand!
Right now, our organization has a 0% overhead cost. All funds (aside from the exciting prizes) go directly to making content. No administrative salaries, all of our costs go to the people who professionally translate, film, edit and act. We've been lucky to keep our costs low as we have good years-long relationships with the people involved in our project and the start-up costs are funded by the foundation's creator.
For our US and Canadian readers, we have now have a pillow printed from a frame of Hitler References and You that is available through our Kickstarter campaign. The poster of the campaign is pictured left and we're hoping to be successful with the fundraiser. The video promo is in the final edit, so it should be up this week.
The Thai version of the site should also be up next week. This will allow us to scrap the Google translation and the translate button, enabling the site to load faster as well. There will also be a separate Thai blog, which will be more closely aimed at our Thai audience, not a direct translation of this blog.
We will offer more merchandise in the future and will offer items available in Thailand. We don't want people paying excessive postage rates, so the merchandise available in different countries may differ slightly, but we'll be clear about what is available where. If you've got an idea on some gear you'd want to buy, let us know!
Our Kickstarter Prizes
October 21, 2013
Our biggest action this school year will be the production of a thirty second public service announcement on Thai TV. Can this issue be explained in thirty seconds? Uh-uh.
Our position in the Foundation-erse is unique. We are the first foundation dealing with this issue specifically in Thailand, for the benefit of Thailand as well as spreading awareness. Our main audience for the finished film is the people that would wear Nazi items, but we are also looking to attract Educators and donors to our website and cause.
The story (no spoilers) is meant to attract people's attention, give a bit of information and get people talking. If we are really lucky, maybe we can get it to go viral.
Writing the script and story-boarding has to serve two purposes simultaneously, we need to write the story for Thai TV and we need to have a way to pitch it to an international pool of supporters. We're going to use kickstarter.com to fund this project as this is going to be on a much larger scale than our previous projects.
We have two questions for you. We will be casting to shoot in January/February (one day shoot) any actresses that are Western or half Thai that are interested should contact us. We will also be putting together a video for Kickstarter to ask for support of the project. This video should be about four minutes or less so its scope is going to be limited. There are a few directions we can go with it, and some of the ideas can be combined.
We haven't even shared this on the Internet yet. The story of why RHEA was founded, by whom and the events surrounding that.
Defining the Problem
While a quick Google can show someone the background and growth of the problem, we still want to show the size, scope and give a sense of urgency to others, both in Thailand and elsewhere. Our last video explains the timeline and we could use parts of that (posted in previous blog post and here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HDCaL9-AhA0)
Telling the Story
The words "educational video" and "fun" rarely go together and when you add the idea of the Holocaust, it seems pretty bleak. Knowing our audience, a fun story must be the thread that puts our content together, and that idea is what we hope to be our secret to success.
Perhaps our location is what will appeal to others.
We're making our next video that will explain the history of Nazi and Hitler images in Thailand. The video about fashion will still be made as well, so you'll see both soon.
One fact we've verified is that during the 1980s there was a Nazi Bar in Bangkok. However, we cannot find any photos of it. If you have one or know where a photo may be, please let us know.
Also, we've discovered that the information about the Bangkok school that had a Nazi themed Sports Day in 2007 has mostly disappeared. We have enough information already but if you know why this may have happened please tell us.
Hello, have a look at the campaign page where we've just posted our first action at RHEA. This is one that anybody can help with and it will only take a minute. In brief, there is a rather old video on youtube.com from a Thai band named Slur. The song is called Hitler, and in the video, they parade around in Nazi uniforms.
What you can do is go to youtube.com and flag the clip as hateful, I won't link it again as to not increase their Google ranking, you can either search it on youtube (and you'll know it when you see it) or follow the link on the campaigns page.
While we suggest that you don't comment and add to any revenue the posters receive, we must admit to not following that advice though. The words "respectfully" and ending statements with "นะคะ" (na kha) hopefully helped us rise above the usual You Tube commenting nonsense.
There is only 'us'
We strongly dislike hate. We want to be rid of 'us and them' thinking. So join in and join us!
